Day 8 – Illas Cies
From Muxía we went to Illas Cies which took us all day. We arrived in the evening and got anchored in the bay along the beach. We hiked to a viewpoint for sunset, and this time we had red wine, cheese and biscuits. Could it get any better?! The sand on the beach was clear white lots of birds was flying around while the sun set. So beautiful, and so nice to be at an island instead of a harbor. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves rolling on to the beach – not bad at all!
Day 9 – sailing in heavy fog with dolphins in sea sparkles
The next morning we went up to the sunrise which was magical as usual! Then we had a full day on the island. We walked 12 km around the island and watched the gorgeous views. The hard barren Atlantic side versus the east side with its white beaches – the islands reminded me of Jurassic Park. It’s a really nice and well-preserved island, well worth a visit!
After dinner, the guys took a last bath when we discovered how much sea sparkle there was in the water. We were so fascinated that we got inside the boat and started pumping water in the sink and in the toilet – the boat turned into a luminous disco when the sea sparkles passed through the hoses. So cool!
After the bath, we headed off to Porto – we had the night of sailing in front of us. During the night it was a heavy fog and until my shift 02-05 am the fog was so heavy that you could not see the front of the boat. It was very sketchy, so dark and foggy. There were fishing net flags just next to the boat that were completely impossible to see in advance. I began to hallucinate. I thought I saw a boat that lighted up the fog at one point, but it disappeared again. I decided that there had to be a whale I saw splashing the sea sparkles which lit up the fog haha. A bit later though, it was actually a boat that appeared, not far away, which wasn’t shown on the AIS. I had some nervous breakdowns that night haha. Just in time when Jocke came up to relieve my shift we were visited by dolphins who came swimming in the sea sparkles. By now, the fog wasn’t as heavy and the light of the moon was bringing back some visability. This was a moment of magic. Dolphins were swimming in the luminous sea sparkles to the light of the moon’s shine… We were speachless. I have to write a single post about these magic dolphins!
